Marc S. Wilson is a former Kansas Securities Commissioner and advises clients in matters regarding securities, banking, finance, insurance and other highly-regulated industries. He is experienced in mergers and acquisitions; mezzanine, venture and private equity investments; exempt securities transactions; and securities law compliance for both registered and exempt individuals and entities.

Mr. Wilson has represented numerous financial institutions and small business investment companies (SBICs) in both transactional and regulatory matters. While securities commissioner, he led Kansas’ implementation of the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act of 2010 (Dodd-Frank). Additionally, Mr. Wilson has experience both prosecuting and defending consumer protection matters, criminal matters alleging financial misconduct, including broker-dealer and investment advisor impropriety, and breach of officer and director fiduciary duties.

He earned a Juris Doctor (J.D.) from Boston University School of Law, a Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.) from Boston University Graduate School of Management, and a Master of Laws (LL.M.) in banking and financial law from BU Law’s Center for Finance, Law and Policy. While at BU Law, Mr. Wilson was the editor-in-chief of the Review of Banking & Financial Law. He is also a graduate of the University of Kansas, where he was a Hilltopper and earned Phi Beta Kappa honors, among other awards for community service. Prior to serving as Kansas Securities Commissioner, Mr. Wilson practiced in the Banking and Financial Services group at Stinson Morrison Hecker LLP and served on the staff of Congressman Dennis Moore, then a member of the House Committee on Financial Services.

In addition to his admission to practice law in Kansas and Missouri, Mr. Wilson serves on the board of directors of MAX Insurance Company, the first and only insurance company to attain B-Corporation status, and United Community Services of Johnson County. He spends considerable time on philanthropic and community activities while maintaining an active legal practice in the areas of his expertise.
