Overview
Jon Dedon has been practicing law for more than 15 years. He initially practiced at a large law firm and primarily represented large corporations. His clients now range from local startups to publicly traded companies to non-profits, with a particular focus on artificial intelligence (AI) law. He frequently serves as outside general counsel, where his breadth of experience allows him to see the entire field and help clients understand how transactional matters interact with regulatory compliance issues, and unfortunately, sometimes with litigation.

Jon’s AI practice involves advising clients on the complex legal landscape of artificial intelligence technologies. With extensive experience in intellectual property, data privacy, and emerging regulations, Jon advises tech companies, startups, and policymakers on issues including AI governance, data privacy, intellectual property, algorithmic accountability, and compliance with domestic and international AI regulations. Jon also works closely with developers and product teams to assess risk, implement ethical AI practices, and ensure transparency in automated decision-making systems.
Jon’s transactional practice is focused heavily on contract negotiations, mergers and acquisitions, divestitures, and capital raises. Jon’s clients are involved in numerous industries, from manufacturing, distribution, retail, and services, to highly regulated industries such as AI, banking, securities, cannabis, and health care.
Jon’s real estate practice spans all major areas of real estate, including raw and improved property for office, industrial, retail, multifamily, residential, farms, and professional practice facilities. Jon negotiates and closes real estate purchases as stand-alone transactions and as part of larger M&A deals. Jon has represented landlords and tenants in numerous lease transactions and has negotiated ground leases, build-to-suit contracts, and a variety of construction contracts.
In addition, when litigation is unavoidable, Jon goes to court to protect his clients’ interests. He began his career as a law clerk to the Hon. Duane Benton of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit, so he understands how a judge will view the issues. Jon takes multiple cases to trial yearly and has appeared in numerous state and federal courts, including the Eighth Circuit, the Tenth Circuit, and the United States Supreme Court. Jon’s knowledge of transactional law gives him an advantage in commercial litigation. In addition, Jon has represented various public and quasi-public clients (TIF districts, consortia of elected officials, etc.) in public interest litigation.
